Yeah, as much as I love SO1 and look forward to experiencing it again with nice new artwork and Japanese voiceover options, SO2 R is much more thorough as a remake. Feels a bit like a reverse situation from their PSP releases to me, come to think of it, as back then SO1 got the more thorough remake and SO2 was the glorified enhanced port.
