I finished Legend of the Legendary Heroes last night. That's an entire 24-episode series watched in about a week and a half -- not bad going by my standards.

I enjoyed it! But at the same time, I'm frustrated because the anime only really covers the beginning of the story!

It wouldn't be half as bad if the original light novels were readily available in English, but that's the thing -- there's barely any chance that they'll be licensed, because it's not exactly a brand-new series (started in the early 2000s, I think) and it's made up of so many volumes. As far as I can see, the licensing companies that do LNs mostly go for very-currently-trending isekai and/or harem stuff, and since DenYuuDen is neither isekai nor a harem... the only hope for it would be if anyone was willing to release it in a two-volumes-in-one format, like Vertical did for most of the Seraph of the End novels they've put out so far (and they could possibly promote it as being from the same writer as Seraph too), but that's still a very dim hope at best. Even fan translations seem to be spotty and abandoned. =/

It's a shame, because the story and especially the characters are so damn good. I actually liked the male protagonist! That's proof of how good the character writing is! There's so many of them that I like, plus one thing I really enjoy about the show in general is how much moral greyness abounds in the cast.

Finally, like so many things I take a shine to, the fandom is tiny. Feels like par for the course by now, though...
mikogalatea: Shinoa from Seraph of the End, resting her chin in the palm of one hand, apparently deep in thought. ([Seraph] Shinoa)
I'm watching Legend of the Legendary Heroes! (Also known as Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu, or DenYuuDen for short.)

I actually started watching it in mid-2016, around the time Dangan Ronpa 3 was airing, but I ended up just focusing on DR3 (not least because Funi UK's video player could be pretty damn uncooperative at the time...) and ultimately let my Funi subscription lapse when its deal with Crunchyroll meant the subbed content would all eventually go there instead. Sadly DenYuuDen never made it to Crunchy during that partnership, so since it's ended and Funi has all its subbed content back again, I decided the other day that I'd start subscribing to Funi again so I could enjoy all the exclusive shows I'd been eyeing up... or enjoy a show I'd already started before, in DenYuuDen's case!

I'm already a little further than I got to previously, and as before, I've been liking what I've seen. One might think from the silly title that it's just a comedy, but while it does have a fair amount of comedy, it can also just as easily be very serious and even downright dark; it's fond of its mood whiplashes. It's also full of pretty people, and the characters themselves are great.

One thing that inspired me to pick this show up again is that the writer of the original light novels is the same guy who's writing Seraph of the End, which I'm also a fan of. Between Seraph and DenYuuDen, I definitely feel that Kagami writes some solid characters, including some that I love a lot. :3

I'm looking forward to watching more!
