mikogalatea: Estelle from Tales of Vesperia, smiling while just having brushed the tears from her eyes. ([ToV] Estelle)

When I'd last played the Switch version of Tales of Vesperia back in 2019, I'd just returned to Dahngrest after finishing up at Ghasfarost, immediately before the next major set of events that happened there.

Since I picked the game back up just over a week ago, I've made it to Mount Temza -- slightly past the farthest point I'd ever gotten to in the 360 version!

Where I'd left off in 2019 was right before Yuri kills Ragou. I totally support him killing the bastard, as it was pretty rancid that he was going to get off with basically just a slap on the wrist for what he did.

Rita is still very gay for Estelle, news at eleven.

I picked Estelle to distract the guard at Heliord (almost picked Karol instead on a "hey, you're the one who suggested it" sort of basis, but what can I say, I very much have a favourite character among the available options) and she got adorably gung-ho about it. ^^;

The little event in Zaphias with Rita and Estelle chasing a cat together is so cute.

I'd totally forgotten about the ghost ship. Was it even in the 360 version? Patty's presence here in the new edition really had me questioning that...

Patty herself is a fine addition to the cast, even if I leave her on the bench due to her seeming like she's tricky to use properly in battle. She definitely got an interesting hook to her character once I saw the kind of shit she gets because of Aifread's reputation.

Got Estelle's memento of her mother in Mantaic. It's such a sweet event; it's like she's basically saying she's come to see Yuri as family. (I'm not against Yuri/Estelle as a romantic ship, even though I'm more into Rita/Estelle and Yuri/Judith and have been increasingly warming up to Flynn/Yuri, but I do love their friendship and really appreciate that their relationship is more platonic than anything; there's something quite refreshing about that.)

Yuri killing Cumore is an event I certainly remembered, as is Flynn calling Yuri out on it soon afterwards. It's made me realise that I've eased up on Flynn a lot now, after I used to find him quite annoying for being such a stick in the mud with regards to morals; I recall being particularly annoyed by him here before, but this time round -- though I remain much more of a Yuri fan -- I felt more inclined to see both guys' points. As much as I support Yuri killing shitty people, and as much as I agree with him that the law sucks right now with regards to punishing said shitty people, there is the potential danger of him going down a slippery slope.

The following scene with Estelle is so good. She is such a sweetheart. ♥ I loved when she held her hand out to Yuri, and then he looked at his own hand as if thinking of how bloodstained it is with his crimes before agreeing to the handshake.

Patty wondering about how close the bond is between Yuri and Flynn, then getting a bit jealous and saying something about Yuri being stolen away from her made me laugh.

The entire thing with Belius is another event I remembered relatively well. It made me cry back in the day, and it made me cry this time round too. Poor Estelle. ;.; I also recalled Belius herself being a fairly tough boss fight, and she certainly is -- mostly because she summons that double of herself partway through that puts way more hurt on the party, and also because you have to go through a bit of a gauntlet before her without being able to save or stock up in the middle of it, meaning you need to be well-prepared before going to see her. (At least I do usually make a point of keeping everyone's equipment up-to-date and ensuring I have plenty of healing items.)

One thing I'm surprised I forgot about is Yuri slashing his own arm to get Estelle out of her heroic BSOD and prove to her that her healing powers aren't poison.

I liked the little moment in Dahngrest after all that where Rita was clearly worried about how Estelle was actually holding up after what happened with Belius. I like any moment where she worries about her, for that matter.

Don Whitehorse's fate hits all the harder with Patty being part of the story in this version.

I think I've got a hard boss coming up very soon, so I'm wishing myself luck with that...
