First impressions of Pokémon Y

To tell the truth, I've been playing the game since yesterday afternoon! It came out a day early in the UK, or at least in the part where I live. :3
I've only just reached route 5, and it already feels like I've caught a lot of 'mons. There's definitely a lot more variety (or at least more different species) on the first routes than there ever were in older games, unless my memory of Black is clouding over my memory of the others. Froakie's my starter, and I chose Charmander from the Kanto trio because that was my favourite starter from the first gen. I've downloaded the event Torchic, too, though I've been a bit reluctant using it because I think I'd rather use Pokémon I caught myself. I guess I’m weird like that. >>;
Besides Froakie, Fletching's the current darling of my team. It's just so cute, especially when I play with it in Pokémon-Amie (which I am very addicted to, by the way)! I wonder when it evolves? That's one of the things I haven't spoiled myself on beforehand...
Also gotta say: I haven't been using it myself because I'm using Ralts in its stead, but Flabébé is a lot stronger than I was expecting from such a miniscule 'mon! Or, maybe I'm just saying that because the first one I saw (in a trainer battle) caught me off guard with Vine Whip. My poor Froakie... D:
My player character's currently wearing a pale pink hat with a flower on it. I think I could have some fun with the customisation! I got annoyed at the peeps in Lumiose City saying I wasn't ~stylish~ enough for them yet; hopefully they just want me to hit some plot bumpers or do a few more things in Lumiose itself first, though.
Zipping around on roller skates is so fast! I do kind of wish I could toggle it off instead of having to switch between the control stick and D-pad to walk, though; it's just that the D-pad isn't that comfortable to use, unless I'm just holding my 3DS in a wonky manner. It's a fairly minor niggle; I do realise that players are expected to spend more time zooming along routes than trying to navigate maze-y bits.
That's all I can think to write about right now! I might be back with more liveblogging as I progress through the game. ♥
Having said that, I think most of my liveblogging will be done on Tumblr rather than here; in fact, even this post is pretty much copypasta'd from my Tumblr. I'll be tagging all my liveblogging on that site as #gala plays pokémon y, so people are free to block that tag if they want to dodge spoilers. I'll be throwing everything under readmores either way to help.
