After having seen the Hilda/Balthus B-rank and a rather nice mealtime exchange between them, he really feels like a second big brother to her.
Yuri/Dorothea C is the start of a chain I've been particularly keen on checking out in this run. We learn he's actually very good at singing and sometimes secretly does so for back-alley kids, but he otherwise really hates singing and it's evidently a touchy subject for him. I hear from peeking on the fringes of the fandom that his reasons for not liking to sing are very, very sad... I'll have to see for myself when I get the rest of these supports.
It also puts the choir practice activity in a bit of a different light, if characters having strengths or weaknesses in it isn't so much about their singing ability as it's about how much they enjoy it. Yuri definitely seemed very unhappy about it when he was randomly picked for the hymn recital on Saint Macuil Day... I wonder how much of a dick the RNG was being there? =/
Lorenz/Leonie B has him actually being quite kind to her when she's trying to work while injured, although she doesn't trust his intentions (especially when he was being such a pompous jerk before) and thinks he's just taking pity on her because he's a noble and she's a commoner. I've talked before about how funny I've found these two together in previous interactions, and that still holds true, but it's also nice to see a much more serious support between them; it gives the ship a good bit more nuance. :3 I like how the "I'm talking to you as a friend" line from their C-rank comes back here.
To my surprise, I've already got Byleth/Linhardt B again! I thought it was locked until at least Chapter 9, after the whole thing in Remire... unless that only happens if you're actually leading the Eagles? Anyway I LOVE THIS SUPPORT SO MUCH AND I LOVE THIS SHIP SO MUCH IT'S STILL ONE OF MY VERY FAVOURITES AND GETTING IT AGAIN FEELS LIKE I'VE COME HOME FOR A BIT ♥
*ahem*
I've also got Ferdinand/Dorothea C and Linhardt/Dorothea C again. I still quite like the latter; it's good insight into how Linny thinks, and I felt from the start that they go together well if they're both more than happy to talk smack about the nobility.
Ferdie/Dorothea, meanwhile, feels a bit different after I've since seen so much more of both characters, including the rest of their chain. I notice that he's never angry at her over the fact she has a grudge against him; he just wants to know why she hates him, and when she won't give him a straight answer he's more confused and sad than anything. I had weird feelings about this pairing, to be honest, although I never disliked it; to keep it brief, it took until long after seeing their A-rank (which was very good, by the way) for it to really grow on me as a ship, and even now I hugely prefer a slowburn take on anything romantic between them.
Lorenz/Dorothea C is... not off to a good start in terms of their relationship, but I fully expected that considering who they both are as characters, so that's fine. It's kind of interesting to compare and contrast their situations and marriage goals, and I feel like this chain could go in decent directions later.
Claude/Marianne B is good. She's so cute when she's talking about Dorte the horse, and Claude is pretty perceptive about what causes her anguish; his response to that is kind of harshly worded, but he makes valid points all the same.
Ignatz/Leonie is getting really sweet as of their B! C'mon, Leonie, give Iggy the confidence he needs to pursue his artistic dreams! Also, I've come to realise that Leonie goes well with a lot of people. I more-or-less ship her with all the Deer boys at this stage.
Yuri/Constance B is hilarious and they continue to play off each other in entertaining ways.
Learning a bit more about Claude's parents was the best thing about Claude/Hilda B. If I was more into the idea of the ship, I'd also take a lot more to his suggestion that Hilda will eventually meet someone even she would work her hardest for, as that's pretty obvious romantic foreshadowing; but as it is, I'm hesitant to ship them because certain things about them that come up elsewhere (one case in point: Hilda's supports with Cyril and the values she's shown to hold there) make me feel like there's an elephant in the room that doesn't get addressed. =/
Ingrid/Ignatz C is okay. (Haven't actually recruited Ingrid yet, and I'm waiting til Chapter 8 before I do so because of how she happens to work out as a recruited unit, but I got this support while pulling her into mealtimes and I wanted a head start on it anyway.) She takes an interest in his art, she gets carried away with suggesting tweaks to what he's painting, they're both dismayed by the end results of that, and then at least she apologises for being pushy when he gets hard on himself over it. I think this chain has potential to be fairly cute, assuming there's no huge missteps later.

I'm on Chapter 6's story battle now, but I think I ought to jump back to another game or two for a bit before I continue. >>;

Date: 2020-05-06 05:50 pm (UTC)Ignatz/Ingrid is actually pretty good later on. I know people see her as Miss Bossy because she scolds her potential boyfriends a lot, but in this one she's very fair with her suggestions and then feels bad when they don't work. She doesn't ALWAYS boss her guys around, and sometimes it's sorta warranted cause the guys have some bad habits.
And Ferdinand/Dorothea handles the "girl hates a boy for no reason and won't tell him why" deal surprisingly well. Dorothea isn't being a nasty YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DIIIIID [slap slap slap] tsundere bitch like in Love Hina, she just honestly says she hates him and wants to see if he can figure it out. And Ferdinand isn't a whiny wuss or an offended jerkass, either. They really grew on me when I got their support chain.
You'll want to hug Yuri so hard when you get to his A support with Dorothea later. :c
I got Claude/Marianne to A in my last VW run and their final support is shockingly sweet and heartfelt, and shows a lot of depth to Claude.

Date: 2020-05-08 05:48 pm (UTC)I've heard that Ingrid's supports with Claude and Raphael aren't great for the reasons you mentioned, but she hasn't been too bad with Iggy so far. I'll keep going with that chain, though I'll also get her other supports I haven't seen before along the way. Remind me not to forget to see her Yuri supports too!
Aw, c'mon, Dorothea isn't comparable to Naru by any stretch of the imagination! (I mean, I know you weren't actually treating them as such, but still.) She's not some slap-happy tsundere who beats Ferdie up over even the tiniest percieved wrongdoing; she's just super passive-aggressive to him, and while her grudge against him specifically may be over a misunderstanding, it is linked to her very justified hatred of shitty two-faced nobles. I do agree that the whole thing between them is handled pretty well.

Date: 2020-05-08 05:55 pm (UTC)She and Claude aren't terrible together, their ending was kinda nice, but I far prefer them with others. Actually, her non-Azure Moon ending with Raphael is pretty cute, and I found their B and A supports rather nice compared to the C rank.
Definitely! Too much media tends to go the Naru-route with women getting angry at their men, with the men having to grovel for forgiveness. (Romantic comedies, teen sitcoms, romance novels) So it was SO refreshing to see a "woman is angry at man over misunderstanding" plot handled so well. Dorothea has justifiable reasons to hate nobles, she'd been kicked and spat on, so of course her reaction to Ferdinand's reaction wouldn't be favorable. And considering Ferdinand tends to put on airs, her being put off by him wasn't exactly baseless. (He's not Sylvain or Lorenz, but he does it enough to raise her hackles.)
