I can't believe I only just realised this, but the fact I still think of the Sonic the Hedgehog villain as Dr. Robotnik and not Dr. Eggman really shows my age. ._.;

I thought they were two different characters until I learned otherwise. I can't remember when I did, though.

I can't remember when I first saw him refered to as Eggman myself, but I do know when I did I naturally realised it was a Peach situation where the localisation shifted a character's name back to what they were originally called in Japanese. Actually, speaking of Peach, I was once confused by the whole Peach/Toadstool thing back when I was a kid; thankfully Mario 64 helped a bunch by basically saying her full name was Princess Peach Toadstool.

(Bonus embarrassing admission: possibly because of the Peach/Toadstool thing, when I was first getting into Fire Emblem I initially thought Roy and Eliwood were the same person!)

I remember finding out Toadstool's name was Peach when I played a demo of MarioKart64 at a store. I knew it had to be the same character thanks to her appearance, but was "oh :o" at her name.

(Ahahaha, you wouldn't be the first. It doesn't help that Roy really takes after his daddy looks-wise.)

I'm 'guilty' of that myself. My s/o is really into the Sonic series and even he refers to him as Robotnik rather than Eggman. I think maybe it has something to do with how we were introduced to the character as Robotnik when were were young.

Yeah, maybe that's the case. Then again, nowadays I always think of Peach as Peach and not Princess Toadstool, though that might just be because I've kept up with the Mario franchise much more than Sonic over the years.
