mikogalateaIn less bitchy news, my poking at my SS run in Houses continues. It took me a hilariously long time to clear a simple side map as I got myself used to the basic gameplay again! ^^; It does help that I'm still early in the game and I've got NG+ perks on this file, so I've got more leeway while I'm this rusty.
Now I've finally moved off the battle selection menu for the first time in two years, I've gotten a bunch of supports both old and new. It's been a while since I last did support reports!

As far as Yuri/Bernadetta C goes, there's something about him saying that if he were to hold a grudge against her (and he doesn't) it would be for accidentally cutting his face with shears when they were kids.
Sadly, as of their B I can't say I'm feeling this ship all that much. These supports aren't bad by any means, but the fact Bernie's still so scared to talk to her old friend at B-rank does get in the way of the chemistry they'd otherwise have.
I still want to see their A-rank, but I've also heard that one drops the ball quite hard in some ways -- namely that it comes off as excusing Bernie's shitty dad. Based on what I've heard, though, I do get the sense that the issue with that convo got addressed in a certain support in Hopes.
(All that said, I love so many of Yuri's other ships so much that I can't feel too sad about this one not quite clicking with me.)
I have been enjoying Constance/Mercedes, though! Aww, they just missed each other at the magic academy because Coco graduated right before Mercie enrolled... also, I loved Coco going giddy at the idea ofoneesama Mercie looking to her as a senpai in their C-rank.
Coming back to that C-rank from Hopes, though, the comedy music with outdoors!Coco feels ten times iffier than it did before, and I always did find it quite iffy in the first place. I'm feeling that even more now I've gotten Coco/Mercie B, which basically says sunlight is a trigger for her; Coco may be a cartoony character in many ways, but it's still uncomfortable to see her outdoors state treated as such a joke in this game when it's essentially a trauma response. =/
Still, these two are cute! Coco is so eager to get Mercie to share in her dream with her. :3
Petra/Ignatz C is cute enough, I guess, but I dunno how to feel about the worldbuilding tidbit where everyone in Brigid has good eyesight and anyone who doesn't would die from monsters or starvation. Did the writers really think that through? I just can't help thinking there's some questionable implications here...
That aside, while I usually can't stand the "person who normally wears glasses looks better without them" trope (in general, I mean; I know it's not at play in this support) Iggy does look kind of cute without his.
Ignatz/Mercedes C is pretty cute! I thought this chain would be about art as that's relevant to both their interests, and for all I know that might still come up later, but for now the "skittish person would like to be more like calm person" angle works pretty well too.
I got Constance/Edelgard C as well, despite the route I'll be taking this playthrough. It's gotta be said, hearing comedy music in a support with Edie of all people is a bit of a surreal experience! Coco's fabulous rainbow tea makes for a fun mental image. But then the convo turns more serious by the end and Edie can't/won't help Coco with her aspirations at this point... and since this will be my SS run... it makes me wish I was doing my second CF run already so I can see where this chain leads to.
Among all these supports I hadn't gotten on previous playthroughs, I've gotten to revisit a bunch of old supports too! I see Constance/Ferdinand C is still a tearjerker... on a happier note, I'm reminded once again that Dorothea has a lot of good supports and it's been a delight to see the C-ranks of so many of my favourite ships with her again! Petra/Dorothea C especially put a smile on my face; it's been so long since I last saw that one!
More seriously, though, parts of Yuri/Dorothea C do feel harsher when I've long since seen their A-rank -- particularly when she calls him out for talking about singing like it's a battlefield, and he apologises and says he forgets what's a real threat and what isn't. D:
To stop this ending on a downer, while I'm always happy to see old favourite ships plus supports that are totally new to me, I also wonder if getting old supports again might make me reconsider ships I didn't give much thought to before.

(Plus, a line from an NPC in Azure Gleam, uh...re-contexualizes why Yuri might have said what he did. Not in Count Varley's favor, but...well, you'll see.)

Date: 2022-08-15 04:21 pm (UTC)Sadly, from what I've seen peeking in on the edges, AG also has some aspects to it I think I'll hate. It's actually making me wonder what I want to do first between it and SS, as they're both routes I expect to have some issues with.
I'll cross those bridges when I get to them, though. It's always best if I play the actual routes and can properly judge them for myself, after all.
