breath of the Paldean wild

I've been playing Pokémon Violet a ton since I got it, but I'm making myself take a little break from it so I can get some thoughts down.

So far I've beaten two Gyms (Katy and Brassius), two Titans (Klawf and Bombirdier) and two Star bases (Giacomo's and Mela's), with my current plan being to go for Iono, Orthworm and Atticus's base next before jumping back to the western side.
I love just how many wild Pokémon there are in any given area, with a variety of different species to boot, and like in Legends I can just sit and hide and watch them doing their thing if I want... or I can just catch loads of them, like I've actually been doing!
Having a minimap with compass directions is an absolute godsend. As much as I enjoyed Legends, one of my main gripes with it was the lack of a minimap of any kind; it was a pain in the neck to have to open the map screen whenever I wanted to see where I was or even just what direction I was facing. If other people were annoyed by that too, then I'm glad that crit seems to have been taken on board.
I'm definitely getting something similar to the "One More Shrine Syndrome" I used to have when playing Breath of the Wild. If I see a new Pokémon Centre or watchtower nearby, I'll totally be heading straight over there and registering the new fast travel point along with it.
My current party is made up of Crocalor, Clodsire, Dachsbun, Flamigo, Kilowattrel and Veluza. Fuecoco evolved so soon that I feel like I barely got to see it as Fuecoco; it's got me thinking, if forced EXP share is here to stay, then the starters should evolve into their middle stages a bit later (like at least lv18) because I felt this way about Sobble in Sword as well. =/
Dachsbun is adorable, and it was an absolute star for me against Mela's Revavroom! I was having a bit of trouble against that before I realised it couldn't do much against my little bread doggy (who happens to be immune to Fire-type attacks). Speaking of bread doggies, Fidough looks vaguely like one of my own dogs and I can't unsee it!
The Gym challenge is the least compelling of the three main storylines to me, aside from the fact its badges help with catching higher-level Pokémon and having them obey me. That said, Katy was cute and Brassius amused me.
Star feel like a Skull-tier antagonist team, in the sense that they're not a villain team so much as a group of troubled young people coming together. I don't mind that in the least, personally, and I want to see where this plotline goes from here.
Arven's story is probably my favourite, and it's already made me tear up. He wants to help his sick doggy! ;.; On a lighter note, I like how tsundere he's getting about Miraidon eating his sandwiches, and I couldn't help seeing the first sandwich session with him after beating my first Titan almost as a date. As for the Titan battles themselves, Klawf was slightly tough due to its high defence and the fact my team hadn't quite taken shape yet at the time, and I made the fight against Bombirdier look pretty badass by sending my freshly-evolved Kilowattrel against it. (Big birds duking it out!)

I'm absolutely loving what I've seen of the Starfall story so far. Mela's design is gorgeous, and I like Giacomo's aesthetic a lot. I wanna get to know Penny more, too.
