I finished watching RErideD on Crunchyroll the other day, which marks the first of the Autumn 2018 shows I've been following to have ended.
It... honestly wasn't good. There were parts of it that were decent, I guess, but it was pretty lacklustre on the whole. I mostly decided to watch it because it had Yoshitoshi ABe's name attached to it (he was the original character designer), which, based on what I know of previous shows he was involved with, made me expect something a tad more thoughtful instead of what turned out to be a fairly standard sci-fi action series.
Oh well... I have the DVD set for Serial Experiments Lain, so I'll just check that out instead when I get around to it. At least I've heard good things about that one.
Speaking of getting around to watching DVDs, I'm starting to try working on my huge backlog (trust me, it's been building up for years on end, and it's still not as overwhelmingly bad as my game backlog!) and thanks to that I finished Starship Operators earlier today! It's a pretty decent sci-fi space opera, originally from 2005 and perhaps most notable for a) being "harder" sci-fi than a lot of anime, and b) being based on light novels by the same author as Record of Lodoss War. It's obscure enough that it doesn't have any fics on AO3 (even uncategorised!) which is a bit of a shame; I wouldn't say it's a great anime -- I'd prefer more character development, even if the characters themselves are likeable enough -- but I think it's worth a look all the same if the premise piques anyone's interest, and it's only 13 episodes.
I'll see if I can make a stronger habit of writing about what I read and watch and play from now on.
